12 Most Popular Style Trends For Guys This Fall/Winter

1. High Top Sneaks/Casual Boots: “High Top sneaks are so in its crazy and they are like boots for street guys which is great, Even Marc Jacobs released pairs of them and they are a big style statement for a young teen who hasn’t grown into the casual boots yet. One of the best looks is a soft leather boot in a neutral shade that you can tuck your pants into. The idea is you’re a cleaning up the silhouette and taking the weight off the bottom of your look and puling it up. The big plus with these styles is that they usually have an 1 ¼ - 2 inch lift, and since that average is guy is about 5’8 – 5’10 those extra inches can add up to the height of your desire. “
2. Tie Dye Bleaching: “ So I don’t know if you have noticed but Tie Dye is back in 2009 and I personally never liked Tie Dye even though I live in NorCal but I do like the Tie Dye Effect created with Bleaching. The bleaching only takes the color of your already neutral pair of jeans up a few shades so it gives you a nice graded color scale. The best variations of this are the spray bleach effect, the spotted effect, and then the marbled look. This is also one of the most cost effective looks of Fall/Winter 2009 because if you don’t want to run out and buy them you can DIY. It becomes a fun weekend project and you can even do it with friends.” (Check Out The DIY Post teaching you how to do this.)

3.Over sized Blazer: “So the cool thing about knowing proportions and understanding clothes is that you can begin to play around in your closet and wear things in new ways. The over sized blazer is cool for young people because it has this sort of almost grown up vibe while also giving off a vibe of maturity. Through a slightly over sized blazer over a T and put on some skinny colored denim and you have a look made in style heaven. This is a very retro vibe throwing us back to the 80’s, so ask your dad or older brother, or again you can thrift it for less than $30 Dollars.”
4. Chunky Sweater: “Now don’t get me wrong, I am all about a nice clean line and love a cashmere sweater or perhaps a merino wool but this fall I think that the chunky sweater is a good idea. A nice chunky knit sweater worn by itself with a close fitting pair of pants or worn with under a fitted jacket is a nice idea this fall. You won’t find it at American Apparel so don’t even try. I would actually advise you to search through your closet for an old grandma gift that you have never worn a print you found inappropriate, or I would even advise you looking through the racks of your local thrift store.”
5. Thick Scarves: “This season don’t just throw a scarf around your neck and let it hang. This year actually get yourself warm and wrap the thing around your neck several times and don’t let it hang. This year is all about tightening the look up and cleaning up the loose edges so along with putting the pants in the shoes we are wrapping the scarves up. Now don’t wrap to tight because we still want to see a little of your neck and we want comfort but think close to the neck when it comes to scarves this season.”
6. Cuffed Pants: “ The tattered pant look is no longer in and we cannot let our pants pull, drag, rip, and carry on behind us. This year the pants are being cuffed and if they are too long either cuff them, get them hemmed by a tailor or mom, or just buy them in the right height. When they say 32/30 the “32” is the waist measurement, and the “30” is the length of the hem.”
7. Colored Denim: “ Solid Colored Denim in red, blue, yellow, green, etc is really hot right now and you would serve yourself to get on that train. Fall/Winter does not just need to only be about typical neutrals like beige, black, and grey. This year we are brightening up our winter closets with bold colors that make people take notice in a sea of boring shades. Though, I would say that colored denim looks great with a gray blazer or a neutral colored shirt. Play with it!”
8. Neon: “ Neon is very popular this season but before you run out and buy a tacky jacket or some strange pants let me tell you that accessories are how you do this trend. With belts, ties, shoes, suspenders, sunglasses, watches, and even kitschy cuff links. The best way to do neon is to do it as softly as possible. Tone neon down with lots of neutral colors and don’t let it dominate your look.”
9.Skinny Tie and Bow Tie: “Now if you like to look polished and ready for presentation invest in this years skinny tie and bow tie. Chunky ties are so out and they should be, again this year we are cleaning everything. Pull the eye to the face with a bow tie and slim your waist by drawing the eye in with a skinny tie.”
10. Horizontal and Vertical Patterns: “I would like to set the record straight and let everyone know that plaid is not a blanket term and there are other Horizontal and Vertical Patterns. This Fall/Winter you will be out in the cold unless you have one or two cross patterns in your closet. Go and get yourself, Tartan, Gingham, Plaid, or Checkerboard. You can fine this trend in every store in the country right now so don’t day it isn’t accessible. Oh and BTW throw out your hound’s-tooth and paisley from last year. “
11. Felt Hats: “ I know we all love the beanie, and especially the slouchy beanie, but lets expand our horizons with a felt hat or two in a number of styles that will take up your style level with one wear. The felt hat is classic and you can find great ones at a lot of different places but they can always be found at our friends Urban Outfitters. “
12. Waistcoats: “ Put away the ¾ and Knee Length coats and as I said take is up with a coat that stops at the waist. Dividing you into two parts. Waistcoats in neutral tones or in colors are very popular right now and you can even belt them. When it come to belting a waistcoat at the natural waist think thin belt in a different color this year. Take an old belt from your boyhood and then through it on your coat to give you a slimmer line and also make you look a bit more put together.”
